Southern California Deaf Group Home

San Diego Youth & Community Services (SDYCS) has opened the first group home in San Diego County for Deaf and hard of hearing youth. The Southern California Deaf Group Home has been made possible through SDYCS’s great partnerships with County of San Diego Board of Supervisors (specifically Supervisor Greg Cox), Alliance Healthcare Foundation, San Diego Deaf Community Services, County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, San Diego Deaf Mental Health Services, McMillan Realty, KB Homes, BIA cares for Kids, Union Bank Foundation and Sweetwater Union School District. The home is located in Chula Vista but will serve as a safe, culturally affirming home for youth ages 12 to 18 from all over San Diego County.

The three-bedroom home has been renovated to meet the needs of the youth. Hardwood floors will resonate with vibrations that can be heard when someone enters a room. A TTY phone, text messaging devices and a video phone will allow residents to communicate with family and friends. The home is also equipped with a strobe light system to indicate when individuals are ringing the doorbell, and entering or leaving the home, and when the smoke alarm is activated.

In addition, all of the staff working in the home will be fluent in American Sign Language and most of the staff will be deaf or hard of hearing. Youth from the home will attend local schools within the Sweetwater Union High School District.

Bad Anonymous=Villainism

I, ASLumabas, would like to call attention to a very unfortunate yet very real happening across the blogworld known as Villainism. It’s a serious problem with consequences. Bad Anonymous has long cause his/her problem by starting send negative or rude comments to a fellow Deaf Bloggers like myself about Deaf issues. After all—they say that Deaf people can’t do this or that in real society. I put together a list of signs that might indicate you ( I meant Bad Anonymous ) have a problem. Since it’s coming from someone who knows about the devastations of this disorder, we urge you to take this to heart.

This is for bloggers (Toby Welch, Browneyedgirl65 and Foookem + Bug) who did their storys based on their object about PSL ( People's Sign Language ) Check out at (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iShwg2m4o8) I find it very amused and joke! I laughed so hard when I repeat watch Melissa (Mother of PSL?) over and over my stomach hurt. My friend suggest me to create a clip in twist back to ASL instead of PSL.

Melissa, If you are online and read my message right now, it is okay for you to invent your own sign language for yourself BUT not for public! PSL will exist no matter what. My biggest advice to you is to retake ASL classes.. Why? Because it is FUN! Trust me!

Where do I start with? Let me introduce myself. My name is ASLumabas. Why that? (Laugh) Actually, my full name is Alfie Salvador Lumabas. So I take each of first letter ( A + S + L ) then put together to "ASL". Also put together my last name and make it offical "ASLumabas" Yes I am deaf and I use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with. Got hint?

The reasons why I started this Vlog/Blog because I Like to heard from other people's opinion about different issues in American Sign Language thru YouTube and other. It is fun for me to express my facts and opinions in ASL using videos and sharing them online. Why that? Of course it’s a visual communication that features ASL, our primary language, best for deaf people to communicate than writing or typing on blog (But I'm still doing anyways!). I hope to be able to post news, pictures, and videos about my experiences all through the society of life. So just sit back n' relax. Let enjoy what you learn from me!

However, if anyone feels like checking my V/Blog out, that would be great; along with any comments you feel like sharing, I welcome you all. :)
